Alicia Silverstone Is Looking Good And Living Kind

by Sue Rostvold on October 19, 2009

“I am Alicia Silverstone and I am a vegetarian. There’s nothing in the world that has changed me as much as this.”

Alicia Silverston is looking good, and not in a plastic, made-up, Hollywood way either. Honestly, I haven’t paid much attention to what  Ms. Silverstone has been up to, but it’s clearly much more than acting. I saw her in the movie Clueless years ago, so until recently, that’s what I thought of when I heard her name. This past April, The Daily Green declared her an Eco-Original and honored her with a 2009 Heart of Green Award for her commitment to human health and animal rights through ethical eating, I enjoyed watching her acceptance speech below.

She talks about how the green movement, the animal rights movement and the health/nutrition movement are all really the same movement.  For many they have been separate for too long and now they are finally coming together. For some they have always been connected, but it’s wonderful to see the overall consciousness on the rise.

Alicia feels so transformed and passionate about her ethical food choices and lifestyle that she has just come out with a new book, The Kind Diet. The concept is simple, by making better food choices, we are being kind to our bodies, kind to the planet and kind to animals. She also has a new website, The Kind Life,  which is an interactive extension of her book. It is a community based site where everyone can help each other make better choices and find products they can feel good about.

The Kind Diet book5Alicia Silverstone isn’t the first person to talk about the connections between animals, the environment and human health, but the more people speaking out the better, right? Plus, it’s cool that she’s not shy about using her Hollywood influence to share how amazing it feels to be vegan. She has been a vegan for over ten years and knows that if we stop eating animals, everybody wins. The planet will be healthier, we will be healthier and animals will be happier. In other words, if more people eat a plant-based diet the world will be a better place. I couldn’t agree more.

Anyway, I guess it’s time I come out as an official fan of Alicia Silverstone. I have not read the book yet, but I plan to add it to my collection soon. I just signed up to see if I can win a free copy. :)

I had the pleasure of working on this book with Alicia and it’s a very beautiful, powerful agent of good… just like her. I highly recommend it.

I should have know that the Hip Chick had something to do with the Kind Chick! That makes me even more excited about her book knowing your sticky brown rice fingers were involved. Awesome! :)

Thanks for sharing Jessica!
