Allan’s Tahini Garlic Dressing

by Allan Little on February 16, 2010

Call it a sauce or call it a dressing, either way this garlic tahini delight is a great addition to any meal. Many people find eating greens foreign, but when you drizzle some of this scrumptious sauce on top, all veggies taste better, even greens. One of my favorite meals consists of nothing more than pressure cooked short grain brown rice and fresh steamed greens covered with this Tahini Garlic dressing. And, of course I include my veggie pickles when they are available.

I get asked how to make this dressing all the time and I am happy to be able to share this online. Seriously, you can pour this stuff on almost anything and it tastes delicious.

Use these measurements as a guide and adjust to taste. You’ll need a blender, unless you are a purist and prefer to use a whisk to avoid electricity. Add all the ingredients together, mix and pour!

Tahini Garlic Dressing

1 cup roasted tahini (sesame seeds ground into a paste)
1/4 cup soy sauce (high quality shoyu if possible)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
6 large garlic cloves ( more or less to taste)
1 – 2 cups filtered or spring water (depending on desired consistency)

What’s your favorite food to cover with tahini dressing?

Thanks for the comments. I love making a blender full this stuff. It’s a great value, much cheaper and fresher than buying store bought dressing!

Funny thing about tahini, it makes everything taste yummy! Make cookies with it, or put it on broccoli, it’s just good stuff.

So simple! Can hardly wait to try it. I love tahini too. I’ve been using the raw so I think I will go get some toasted from our brand new Whole Foods Market, down the street (in Santa Barbara).

I think you’ll really like it Jan. Some people can’t tell a big difference between raw and roasted tahini, but I can.

Allan
I had another great experience with you and Sue in your amazing garden were I again received your gifts of such a beautiful way to nourish my life.
As Sue drove me back to my home I heard about your Tahini Garlic drsssing–I was so upset that I didn’t get any–Now that I see your video I want it even more
Maybe I will now make it myself–you made it so easily

I’m going to make this tomorrow and can’t wait :) I have a couple of questions when you get a chance. 1.) Have you ever added oil to make this more of a salad dressing and 2.) How long would a batch last in the fridge?

Thanks!

may I sugges that to make this much healthier and even more delicious use raw tahini (cooler section at whole foods)
once you start using raw tahini you will never go back!

This dressing or sauce is wonderful over any kind of greens, my favorite use
of it. Thanks to Casa de Luz, in Austin, since I’d never have thought of it on my own, probably? I’ll try this recipe, it’s very similar (or, the same one? Close!)
